A recent change of law means that all backpackers will now be taxed at a rate of 15%.
Employers are required to register with ATO in order to employ at this rate.
The deadline for registration if you are currently employing eligible workers is 31st January 2017.
Not registering will mean that tax must be withheld at 32.5%.
Obviously the most aware and most motivated backpackers will prefer to be taxed at 15% as this will mean more take home pay. Therefore it is important to register with ATO to secure willing and competent workers.
ATO official information, guidance and online registration forms can be found by clicking the button above.
We recommend you look into this as soon as possible.
