STORY SO FAR:
Zip is from near Toronto in Canada. A lively character from a big family with many interests and talents.
She is partway through University studies in music, psychology and languages in Toronto, and taking some time off before returning.
WORK IN AUS:
Zip has worked for 2 weeks for Travis Doudle and 2 for Jon O'Connor. All duties, including track riding.
Seeking an opportunity to be trained up / learn for track work, with horses more suitable than those here.
What did your job involve, how long for, what were the main tasks ?
Feeding, grooming, saddling, showering racehorses every morning and mucking out stalls from 4am till 10am and then afternoons from 2:30pm- 5pm just mucking and feeding. With Travis I got my track license and did some riding on young horses (2 years old) in the training ring and the trot ring on the track.
Travis unfortunately does not have time to properly train me for track work and his horses are too hot headed for someone making the transition from regular riding to track riding
I learned how the racing scene works behind the scenes and I learned how to take care of and handle very spirited high strung horses. Also had an introduction to riding racehorses which I am keen to improve!
If possible I would love to be placed at a racing stable that is willing to train me as a track rider (I have my track license and Travis Doudle says I am a good rider with great balance and I would be a great fit for the industry, he just doesn’t have the time to teach me). If that’s not possible then I would like any job that involves riding regularly whether that’s endurance riding or ranching etc.
Learned how to wake up early (4am start to the work day), but most important skill I think would be that my horsemanship improved a lot by handling unpredictable horses
