cattle station
Mt Sarah is a cattle property, running approximately 3,500 head. It is situated in northern, South Australia. There is different land types across the 2,250sq/Km property.
We use motorcycles for mustering, Toyota utes for travelling around the property. Trucks for carting stock and equipment. Loaders and graders for maintaining roads, fence lines and water points. One family lives on the property and a governess to teach the children. There is busy periods during mustering, staff numbers will be higher. During normal operations there is only two or three working on daily running and maintenance of the property.
We are a family of 5 living on Mount Sarah Station in Far North SA. Our names are Trent, Louise, Emmett (5), Asher (4) and Drew (2). We currently have 2 staff members – Belle our governess and Tyson is a ringer.
Part of a small team, working mostly with and alongside the station manager.
Typical duties
Helping out on Mt Sarah involves, maintaining water points and cleaning troughs. Repairing fences where needed. Care and maintenance on all equipment used on the property. Homestead gardening and watering during dryer times of the year. Repairs on existing yards. Mustering on motorbikes and yard work. Processing cattle in the yards involves, drafting, marking calves, weighing cattle for sale, assisting in pregnancy testing on a few cows when needed and loading trucks.
We have positions available for an immediate start. Learning on locations of water points and assisting other workers on fencing and cattle yard improvements.
Mustering is 2x per year, and the team grows to 10+ and a helicopter at those times.
Living
Staff accommodation in a separate cottage, shared with a governess for the children. Own room. Kitchen facilities are shared and 3 meals a day taken with the family.
Travel
70km North of Oodnadatta. 30km from Hamilton Station (same company, a bit bigger place with staff for weekend socialising) .
Nearest public transport is Coober Pedy (280 km) collection can be arranged from there, and can be with the postman, the policeman or anyone else heading in the right direction !
