About the workplace:
Cattle & crops. Mixed farming.
Wheat, chick peas, barley, sorghum. Operating Cat Crawler tractor with 60'sowing rig, on GPS and tramlines. Sprayrig, telehandler, Front End Loader, Grain Grader, Silos and sheds for storage, conveyors for grain, Mother bins, Roadtrain and trucks, etc.
Running Santa Gertrudis cattle/crossed with Red Angus Bulls. Calf marking also coming up in 2 - 3 weeks.
Following harvest crop country to be ploughed/Kelly chained/grader boarded.
Job Specification –
. We hold nearly 7,000 hectares of which 5,400 is currently farmed.
. The balance is cattle country – running, at present 700 head of Santa Gertrudis cattle.
. Planting work – with a 60’ Boss Planter, being pulled by a 380 HP Caterpillar Crawler Tractor, towing a 10/tonne seed box (Simplicity).
The tractor is on 3m spacing, travelling on tram-lines and GPS, so that they will need to steer at the end of rows
. Grading of wheat – through our own grader and then delivering.
. Operating Aust-Mech Convenors to load and unload grain.
. We have our own truck scales. Trucks are weighed, prior to leaving the farm.
. We have a JCB Telehandler – to also out-load
. Driving trucks – on-farm, i.e. 3 trucks. (We contract delivery – not our own trucks).
. Case IH Spray Rig/120’– to spray our country
. Cattle work. We run Santa Gertrudis cattle x Red Angus Bulls.
Work involves mustering on quad bikes
Needling – 7/1, Pestigard and bulls have Vibrio
Back-lining – drenching
Marking calves, ear marks, brand and ear tags.
. Fencing repairs and small machinery maintenance, where required.
Muster cattle on quad bikes.
Cattle yards on Walgett and Coonamble properties with race and cattle crush, etc.
We also have the following equipment – used when required-
. 30’ x 2/way plough
. 60’ x Kelly Chain – for removing weeds
. 300 HP FEL (Front End Loader) – moving grain, dirt, raking, etc.
. 40’ Morris Chisel Plough
. 40’ Grader Board – to level country.
. 2 x Mother bins, 4 x 1100/t silos, large 6,000/t grain shed and 2 x smaller grain sheds, + workshop and storage sheds.
Special requirements at particular times of the year
Longer hours worked during peak periods, i.e. for planting/sowing of crops and harvest. Generally 7am - 5pm
Mon-Frid, until peak periods, as above.
Be ready to be anywhere on property, as things can change during day, i.e. cattle get out and need to be mustered back in. We have a property also in the Coonamble area and work there, when required, but sleeping back at home property at Walgett.
Flexibility to do all jobs as required, also general maintenance on large and small machinery, fencing, etc.

Living and accommodation:
30km out of Walgett. We provide a 2 x bedroom cottage – fully self- contained, air-conditioned and rent free.
Will have a 2 bedroom cottage to yourself, other colleague lives in the Kerr's home.
We have installed the Activ8me internet service, but we ask that they pay for their own monthly usage.
Electricity is paid for by us, unless they leave on when not in the cottage and then we ask them to pay for that usage.
Cottage is about 50mtrs distance from main house occupied by long term employee. Do your own food. Phone, internet within cottage and on/off over properties. Transport, as above.
Also 2 x bedroom cottage on adjoining property as accommodation. (We live approx. 13kms away from this one)
Do not charge electricity or rent. Electricity charged if you leave air-cons on while out of cottage. Reverse air-cons and equipped with electric oven, gas hotplates, fridge deepfreeze, cultlery/crockery/cooking gear, tv, beds, couch etc.
Initially someone will take you into town for shopping. If you fit in with us/us with you, later we let you use utility to go to town and do your own shopping.
You will provide your own food and need to have your lunch packed each day -to ensure you have food wherever you are on property.

Walgett is 750km approx SW from Brisbane
Come through Toowoomba and then onto Lightning Ridge, by bus. Depending on what time you arrive in Lightning Ridge, it is possible to catch a bus from there to Walgett where we would pick you up. Alternatively, you can come via Sydney - Bathurst - Orange to Dubbo by train and then the train/bus brings you onto Walgett.
