Boutique Thoroughbred Farm.
Fernrigg Farm is a 70 acre, fully irrigated, property located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, on the banks of the Hunter River. We specialise in the management and development of young stock as well as yearling sale preparation for all the major Australian sales.
Fernrigg Farm also offers a boutique broodmare management service for a select group of clients.
The property has a rich history of producing thoroughbreds of the highest quality. Dual group 1 winner, Yankee Rose, Group 3 winner, Acatour, as well as stakes winners Tawteen and Well Sprung were all born and raised here in recent years.
We are a boutique farm managed by my partner and I. We specialise is the development of young horses and attend all the major Yearling sales as well as offer a service of care for mares and foals for select clients. This is our first year of business so we are looking for someone who works well in a small team in a tight environment, is passionate and ambitious like ourselves.
From October until April the focus is on preparing the yearlings for the sales, therefore we need someone confident and experienced with horses. Also for October until December we will still be mating mater and foal handlings.
Typical duties

We are often also looking for someone who will join the yearling team to prepare the yearlings for the sales. This will include, feeding, grooming, lunging, cleaning stables, hand walking, Parading. Then attending the sales in January at the GoldCoast, Sydney in February and Sydney in April.
Duties can also include tractor driving/general farm work, yearling preparation, looking after mares and foals and all other farm work.
Living
On farm shared accommodation is provided with water and electricity paid for. Single rooms with double beds and walk in closets. we are only 10 minutes from two local towns.
Travel
To Muswellbrook is normally by train (NSW Trainlink) from Sydney and takes approx 4 hours.
The farm is 5km from town, and you can be met off the train.
Working conditions and Pay
We will offer a competitive salary for the right person with the correct skills.
Additional expenses will be paid for during the sales etc.
