Cattle breeding and backgrounding on 2 adjacent properties.
Adele and Philip Hughes farm on two adjoining properties, Dulacca Downs and Heatherlea. 13,000 acres,
13,000 acres all together.
All cattle - breeding, backgrounding, paddock feeding with grain, finishing in large open pens (NB we aren't a feedlot). Have a paddock to plate brand (Rangeland Quality Meats which youngest son Alister runs from our office & coldstore in Brisbane).
About 2,000 head rotate through during the year. Purchase of young heifers from Roma sale weekly.
Truck out 2 B-doubles a fortnight to Casino abattoirs in NSW.
Mustering by buggies, occasionally horses. About 15 horses. Not used often.
No crops are grown.
John Deere tractors are used.
There is a strong and passionate interest in sustainable and regenerative farming practices.
Team:
Team of 5/6, with contractors coming in as required. The team is made up up the owners, Philip and Adele, the managers Jim and Sarah Lomas, Anna Hughes (daughter in law) and her 3 children.
Philip and Adele's son, Lachlan, was tragically killed in an on farm accident in 2018. Lachlan's widow, Anna, and her children also live on the farm.
A foundation has been set up in his name to further his vision for education in regenerative agriculture, providing support for people who are motivated ‘to do’ and are ‘implementers of change’ and ‘champions for regenerative agriculture’.

Duties may include tractor work, chaser bin, grain carting, fencing, cattle yard work, carpentry, house painting and renovation
Pay Information
Award wages, accommodation provided, self catering but also opportunities to be included with family activities as and when is suitable.
2nd visa eligible postcode and farm work is 2nd visa qualifying.
Accommodation
Self contained small cottage on the farm is offered. Self catering, with opportunities to join in with family activities from time to time.
Travel
Dulacca Downs is 400km inland from Brisbane, between the towns of Miles and Roma. Travel is normally by bus from Brisbane to Miles or Dulacca, with colllection from there.
