Poultry / eggs / beef farming
A family business for 40 years, a staff of approximately 11.
We are a free range egg farm producing approximately 75,000 eggs per day plus some irrigation. We run 350 Angus breeding cows on four properties located close to each other in the Vacy /Patterson district in the Hunter valley New South Wales.
Typical duties
We are looking for people to help with day-to-day duties of running both the cattle and hens. Typical duties would include egg collection through machinery, fencing, bird husbandry, cattle husbandry, irrigation moving, general maintenance of keeping clean and tidy mowing whipper snipper etc, tractor driving, ability to be able to have a go at fixing farm breakages.
The Team:
We have a team of five staff daily to run the operation. We are a happy family add local neighbour orientated team who like to communicate well amongst each other.
Living
We have a two bedroom furnished accommodation on site. The accommodation is a charming 95-year-old weatherboard cottage 500 m from the river. The board is $20 per night which includes all utility costs and furnished. There is no telephone or Internet. The property has full Telstra coverage.
Fresh eggs Can be provided for breakfast.
The closest village is 5 km away and has two charming restaurants a pub, A post office and primary school. The closest city is Maitland 30 minutes drive and Newcastle one hour drive. The train services from Maitland and Newcastle.
We do have a Toyota Camry available for full license holders by negotiation. We will happily transport people to and from train station.
In conjunction with the cottage there are two other houses located quite close 500 m apart. One is occupied by a 92-year-old grandmother. The other one is occupied by me (farm manager)and my wife and our five young boys.
Working conditions and Pay
Poultry Award rates, with superannuation plus holiday pay and sick leave. We are a 38 hour /week normally rostered over five days alternating between the staff to cover weekends. 5 on 2 off.
