Gillian's work experience has been focused solely on working on her family farm in South Africa when she was home (from boarding school) every holidays.
Her family have a 13,000 acre mixed farming operation in South Africa close to Lesotho with 2,000 merino sheep, 1,000 Charolais cattle and they grow Lucerne for fodder. They also own 10 horses which they ride often.
One the farm she has worked in a variety of jobs including (but not limited to)
*inoculating/dosing sheep and cattle,
*mustering sheep and cattle on horses
*assisting with shearing (helping with the wool press and is in the early stages of learning to class wool)
*basic tractor skills (raking/haymaking)
*quad bike driving
*Horse riding using an Australian Stock saddle
* She has started to learn how to weld (keen to learn more) and is keen to develop her fencing skills.
WORKPLACE SKILLS
Farm / Livestock
Grew up on family farm assisting her father who is a livestock agent, and her mother, an agricultural auditor. (refer to employment section for further information)
Equine / equestrian
Has been riding from a very young age.
Mostly using an Australian stock saddle.
She classes herself as an intermediate rider.
She is a keen horse rider and enjoy the outdoors.
She has been mustering sheep and cattle on horses and they have 10 horses on the farm that they rotate to use for this. They also have 15 x broodmares.
