His main duties include feeding calves, preparing milk and milk replacer, monitoring animal health, identifying sick or injured calves, administering medications and vaccinations when required, tagging calves, recording weights and growth, cleaning and maintaining pens, replacing bedding, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and biosecurity. He has also gained experience in general farm work, including operating farm vehicles and machinery.
He has gained extensive hands-on experience working with calves on a large commercial dairy farm. His experience includes calf feeding and nutrition, animal handling, monitoring animal health and behaviour, identifying signs of sickness or injury, administering medications and vaccinations when required, tagging, weighing and recording growth, maintaining clean bedding and pens, and following farm hygiene and biosecurity procedures.
He has gained experience operating farm vehicles and machinery, including tractors, buggies, bobcats/skid-steer loaders, and other general farm equipment. He regularly drives and operates this equipment as part of his daily farm duties.
