Work in AUS
Lea has worked for 4 months on a small Thoroughbred breeding property based on a sheep and cattle farm.
Her duties included feeding horses, grooming horses, moving mares with foals, put yearlings on the walker, get cattle into yards. She gain some experience of mower, buggy’s, whipper sniper, blower, and ute driving, as well as cooking meals.
I worked 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. At the weekend we only had to do the necessary stabling and feeding. The daily routine was usually as follows: First there was a short briefing about the day, then we loaded the buggies and fed all the horses, including checking the mares and foals. I usually mixed all the feed on my own afterwards. After that we sometimes moved horses to another paddock or kept horses at the vet. As well as working with horses, I also had to do a lot of gardening. Typical tasks were for example: mowing, whipper ship, spraying, painting fences, fixing holes in fences, planting trees. Sometimes I was also able to work with sheep and cows, but I wouldn't say that I was able to gain much experience in these areas.
Also worked in a Polo Groom (short term job) duties include but not limited to:
- feeding horses
- putting bandages on/take care of them
- tackle up the horses for a Polo Game
- riding them in the morning + leading one or two
